Overview

Using the RAE detection tubes, gas or vapour concentrations can be determined by drawing an air sample through a tube containing a reagent, causing a visual colour change. The concentration is read from the length of the colour stain shown by the reagent. The advantages of detection tubes over other analytical methods are simplicity of use, rapid response, low cost, and very low maintenance. Because each batch of tubes is pre-calibrated, the user does not need any calibration equipment.

Reading the Tubes

The concentration of the compound being measured is read directly from the scale printed on the tube. The reading is taken as the furthest distance along the tube that the colour change becomes visible. If the leading edge is diagonal instead of perpendicular to the axis of the tube, use the average of the maximum and minimum values.

Drawing a sample through the tubes

RAE Systems sample tubes require a pump to draw a sample. One of the following pumps is required:
